Response To Trace's Lead Blog
I had never seen the skit, “The Champions”, from SNL before, but I found it very humorous. When D.C. Timmons said “Every foot matters, every down matters, and every kiss begins with Q”, I died laughing. Timmons butchers a well known jingle from the K Jewelry store, “Every kiss begins with K”. Then when he is corrected by Rodriguez when he states, “It’s a K”, Timmons said, “Sure it’s okay Greg” and then says, “Got to get woke, it’s 2007”. The whole conversation was so funny to me. D.C. Timmons would misinterpret what the others were saying and also state all the wrong things, such as a football field being 100 feet long. You would think that being on a professional football team, one would know how long the football field is and not get confused with yards and feet. Also the fact that he kept calling everyone in the interview Greg, even when to no there was named Greg just added to the humor effect. I definitely agree with Trace that the idea of superiority is overtly at play throughout the skit. These famous professional athletes each make millions each year and are admired by millions across the nation, and when you think of these people, they are thought of as untouchable. It was interesting to see how people could feel in a way superior to Timmons because of the fact that he kept messing up simple sayings and ideas. I do believe that the skit brings light to the idea of head injuries in the NFL. Because it’s such tough sport were people fling each other at another, head injuries are seen to be a prevalent problem. The seriousness of head injuries is seen the skit shows the serious cognitive impairment that many concussions can do to person.
Do you think it's too mean?
ReplyDeleteI like the kind of awkward pause after the line about it being 2007. Its like they were waiting on him to say seventeen but he never did.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the skit did do a good job of showing the long term affects of playing football. Head injuries are such a common thing and not much is being done about it.
